Where do the years go?

Father and Son Camping Trip

My middle son Jason and I are taking a trip together. In many ways it is a once in a lifetime trip. We are driving a Uhaul truck to El Paso, Texas with all of his family’s belongings in it. He is enroute to Bachiniva, Mexico, where he will continue his work in an orphanage the Lord put on his heart to start. Needless to say, it has been a very exciting process, which I know many of you are familiar with.

Where to the years go?

I am so proud of him and his accomplishments and mostly that his heart is for the Lord and serving Him with all that he has. Truly his life epitomizes what Solomon wrote in the Book of Proverbs.

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.

For the most part, knowing that he and my daughter-in-law and their precious little girl, Ayantu, whom they adopted from Ethiopia) are moving to Mexico has not been too sad. For me the joy of knowing that they are following the Lord covers a lot of the sadness a parent might normally feel.

However, having said that, I have given more thought in the last couple of days of the reality of what is taking place. It has been sobering to think that the day has come and he is really leaving as he has been saying his goodbyes to the people at church. Not to mention a recent post my youngest daughter made on Instagram…which certainly didn’t help.

Time simply passes too quickly and before you know it your kids are all grown up, having kids of their own and going off to start orphanages and silly stuff like that.

God has been so good to me. As we were driving down the highway together, just being father and son, I was filled with a heart of gratitude that the Lord actually allows me to do what I do in serving him, and to top it off, to be able to do it with my son.

Oh Lord, how good you are to me to have given me a son who loves you and desires to serve you. Bless him and his family as they venture out to serve you. Watch over them all the days of their precious lives. Use them in mighty ways. I entrust them into your loving care…knowing that there absolutely is no better place for them to be.

  1. Oh my, that picture of the two of you is awesome! God is good! It is so inspiring to see yours and Pastor Jason’s devotion to the Lord in this huge life changing decision. I was praying this morning and I asked God what words I could say to express my love for Him. The answer I heard was, not words but obedience. Abraham, through his obedience, obtained a blessing to every nation. God is worthy of such sacrificial love and devotion. You are already blessed!

  2. God is so good and what a blessed man you are!! So proud of all the Lord has done in your son’s life and to see how the Lord has lead him to reach out to the orphans who have no family and home and to give them all they need as God as totally directed him to do!! So thankful to see his life play out on Facebook and to see God’s blessings on his and Jackie’s life!! Love you Pastor Ron and so so thankful for you!!

  3. Amen, God is so good and Amen, they grow up fast! Praise God He is using Jason in a mighty way! What a legacy, what a good life the Lord has given.
