“Do you love God’s Word?”

Lately I have been having a “love affair” with God’s word that I hope and trust will never end. Notice I didn’t say with “the Bible”. I know that the Bible is God’s word, but saying “the Bible” just doesn’t sound the same. When you say God’s word, there is an authority behind it. It is like when your parents used to say, “That is my final word!”, except millions of times stronger and more authoritative. When God speaks, there is absolutely nothing more to be said.

Have you ever tried looking for an image that would capture God’s word? Believe me, it isn’t easy. I looked at many and found only one that came close and even it fell short of what was stirring in my heart. Why did I choose this one? Because it captures what God’s word has meant to me over the years. It has sustained my life, it has carried me through the darkest of times, it has ministered to the depths of my heart in ways that nothing else could have.

“You make it sound like it is a living thing?” Because it is!

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two- edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

When I think of all that could be said of God’s word, I realize that it would by far be the longest blog ever written. However, having said that, there are five things that do come to mind.

It is how we come to know God…

Romans 10:17
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

It is how we live…

Luke 4:4
But Jesus answered him, saying, “ It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. ’”

It completes us…

2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

It keeps us from doing wrong…

Psalms 119:11
Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.

It defines everything about us…

This is perhaps the most important and powerful aspect of God’s word. As Christians, we are followers of Jesus and Jesus is the Word of God.

John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Revelation 19:11-13
Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.
