Once Dead…Now Alive!

To the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus…

“And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.” Ephesians 2:1-3

I love thinking! The only downside of the process is that it seems as though I can get my mind to ever stop, ever. I find myself never being able to be still long enough to appreciate whatever it is I am thinking about. I think about all sorts of things, sad things, happy things, things that I am curious about, things that make me mad…you name it, I have probably thought about it. However, of all the things that I have ever thought about, or think about my most favorite thing in the world is to think about “the cross”. I never grow tired of it and when I find myself thinking about it…it gives me pause, it stills my heart, and it makes me so incredibly thankful.

It is the cross that made me alive when I was dead in my sin. When I was powerless to do anything about the wretched state I was living in, no matter how hard I tried…it was the cross that transformed my life. I love reading this part of Paul’s letter to the Christians in Ephesus. Every time I read it I am drawn to a deeper appreciation, a deeper love, and a deeper devotion to Jesus.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes…” Romans 1:16
We do well to think about this…often!
