Fulfilling Our Greatest Need

One of my favorite quotes by noted author and bible teacher was written by Warren Wiersbe in his book, “On Being a Servant of God”. I have quoted it on many occassions and every time I do, it resonates deep within my heart.

“Man’s greatest need is to be rightly related to God”.

Early church father, Augustine said it this way;

““Thou hast formed us for Thyself, and our hearts are restless till they find rest in Thee.”

A.W. Tozer, in his book “The Pursuit of God” really captured the significance of this glorious truth.

“God made us for Himself: that is the only explanation that satisfies the heart of a thinking man, whatever his wild reason may say. Should faulty education and perverse reasoning lead a man to conclude otherwise, there is little that any Christian can do for him.”

The reality is that God made us to be in a relationship with Him and we will never be fully satisfied, in this life (and certainly in the life hereafter), until we recognize this truth, believe it, and seek to live it out every single day of our lives. It is only perverse self centered thinking that leads someone to think and act otherwise.

How I thank God and praise His name, that in His love and mercy He revealed this truth to my heart…and I embraced it as truth. This is man’s purpose and it is only when this purpose is fulfilled, by faith in Christ, that we truly begin to live.

John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
